Hi IM’s
I’m booked in for a cesarean in a few short weeks and was wondering if anyone had any advice as far as what to take to hospital, how to make recovery easier, perhaps anything you wish you’d known beforehand? Basically any advice at all would be great as I have no idea what to expect and love hearing about others experiences!

I got the SRC recovery shorts and found them to not help, instead I preferred just cheap sucky in undies from Kmart or target. Get about 4 sizes up for undies and get them high waisted as it’ll rub on your incision. I found putting a pad/medical pad in front of it (between undies and skin) to stop any rubbing.
I didn’t do much research and that helped as I found it an easy process going in without expectations.
Extra big nickers is a must so they don't run on the incision sight, also comfortable pants that sent skin tight. Also alovera for your back for me they used the sticky sheet when putting in the spinal/epidural and the adhesive caused a reaction so the alovera helped with my back.
Use the hospital bed to help you sit up and stand up. I raised the bed to its highest in order for minimal movement to get bubs from crib to bed. And to its lowest when I was brave enough to stand.
Move at your own pace. Do not let anyone tell you when you're ready to move.
Have a spot on the couch set up at home because when you get there you will still need time to heal so you may as well make it comfy.
Don't be afraid to ask for help. Meals should be cooked for you (and brought to you if you can work it). Cleaning should be done by someone else.
Trust your doctors advice when it comes to healing. It's major abdominal surgery so you cannot expect to be healed within a week.
I love my scar. It brought me my healthy baby boy. I do not regret my c-section.
Depend Real Fit incontinence Underwear for the first week or so. So much easier then facing with maternity pads and are nice and high so support your tum.
Speak to your OB about a “painbuster”. It delivers morphine straight to your incision. They are amazing.
Take your pain Meds on schedule - they work much better if you don’t let them wear off.
As crazy as it sounds GET UP AND WALK as soon as you can. My son was in NICU on a different floor - I got sick of waiting for wards men to take me to him for feeds within hours. I was up and walking comfortably 7 hours after my surgery. And walking 100m too & from NICU every 3 hours comfortably. Some of that I attribute to my amazing OB (John Pardey at Nepean), some to the “painbuster” and some to luck!
