Has anyone ever applied for a teacher aide position or similar, without the job actually being advertised? Like just sending a resume and crossing my fingers. Any advice/tips?

Is it a position you know about? If it is you will need to wait for it to be advertised. Otherwise look on seek for casual pools because that's what most schools would use.
This is how lots of teacher aides get work. Send your resume and availability to the principal or business service manager, or HOSES if you work Inclusion.
