Hello,
I am 16 weeks pregnant with my second child. At 14 weeks, I was informed that the results of the Down's Syndrome test was a 1 in 200 chance of our baby having the syndrome. I decided not to have the amnio procedure as regargardless of the results, we would never terminate our baby. I have seen many posts in the past regarding this topic and recall lots of people's experiences of being told a certain "number" and the outcome being very different. So my question to you lovely ladies is: In your experience with receiving the risk factor, what was the outcome? How often (in a general sense) are these "numbers" you get accurate?
Thank you :)

I refused the test i figure i planned the baby i want it regardless but thats just my personal choice. I know 2 people my best friend was told that her baby was down syndrome so she was devestated but when labour came round was prepared she'd made her decisions but gave birth to a completely normal baby. Another lady i have talked to about it was told she had a 50 50 chance of having a baby with down syndrome and gave birth to a precious little boy with down syndrome.
The number is a chance. Like the chances of winning the lottery. Even if your chances are 1 in 200 to win doesn't mean you will. All medical tests have a failure rate just like all contraceptives have a failure rate.
I was told I had risk factors (can't remember the numbers sorry but I had other contributing factors other than the bloods and ultrasound) for Edwards syndrome which is the next most common syndrome after downs but Edwards is fatal. I had the most stressful pregnancy and I had weekly scans I thought my baby was going to die. She's now 3 1/2 and perfectly healthy, I wish I never had the scan! It really ruined my pregnancy, I got sent to royal women's for scan and amnio twice (both times I refused the amnio) and my pregnancy was so stressful baby was born early and only 2 pounds - I think my stress contributed to her coming early.
Please don't stress your entire pregnancy like I did, stressing won't change the outcome. Best wishes with everything xxx
I was told my chances with that test were high as well as having a Down syndrome baby, but mine turned out without it, but either way it was fine wouldn't have bothered me either way, but even though the chances came back as that doesn't mean it is 100% that it will be a downs baby. But on the other hand if it is then just enjoy it, they can be the sweetest kids you will find
Our chance was 1 in 25. Our baby tested positive via a CVS for EDWARDS syndrome.
