Hi Everyone,
We have decided to take the kids out of school next term (all Primary school age) for 4 to 5 weeks and do a big trip to the Uluru and a lot of other uniquely Australian places. We'll be traveling from Sydney with a caravan.
My question is to anyone who has made this sort of trip. What are your tips? Is there any where you would highly recommend? Was there anywhere you wished you had seen? How did you manage home schooling during those weeks? Is there anything you wished you had known before you went?
I would love to hear about other people's experiences. Having never done a trip like this in our lives we want to make sure we cover all our bases and be as well informed as we can be.
TIA?

My children aren't school age so I can't comment on that but I have lived all over the country and overseas before having children. Seriously I wouldn't worry about homeschooling whilst away as it's only 5 weeks and they are in primary school. Maybe just take some books pens and paper and make the schooling about the beautiful places you are going. Teach them about the aboriginals, English settlement, geology of the rocks, land and beautiful formations. I'd probably say you are the one that is going to have to do the most homework to gain all the information and history to pass on to your children so you can all get as much as you can for holiday. Travelling is education in itself:-) enjoy and have an awesome time:-)
I would just get them to read of a night, write a journal each day about what they saw and find out any new maths concepts they will miss I.e. long division and go through that with them (which they usually pick up pretty quick when they are taught one on one). I would spend 1/2 hour max a day, they are gaining so much more from your trip than what school can provide, you are all going to have a ball. When you plan your itinerary (sorry this is really obvious and you have no doubt considered it), consider the wet season up north, like the drive from Cairns to Bamaga can only be done through the dry season and I'm sure the same rules apply in WA as well. Take heaps of pics and enjoy, I so want to do this one day but am currently a single mum and it's too hard financially wise ?
