Birth Control Mirena

Birth Control Mirena

Hi ladies

So long story short I am currently on Levelen Ed Birth control and have been since 13 years old now (27) minus 2 month fell pregnant (planned) then after birth straight back on since the 6 week post birth

Anyway my daughter is now 5 and my husband and I don’t want anymore children. I have never forgotten a pill ever and lately I have been remembering later in the day or accidental taking 2 tablets thinking I’ve missed it.

So basically before there is a unplanned pregnancy I want to have something in place to protect myself.

So I am interested in trying the Mirena
experience in side effects ect would be appreciated

And before someone goes crazy I have spoken with my GP I know what size effects are on the label ect just after real life experience

Thank you again ladies

Have you considered implanon?
(I know this isn't exactly what you asked so do forgive me if I'm out of place).
I was tossing up between the mirina and implanon because like you I had been on levelen for forever (only difference is that I did get the unplanned pregnancy lol). I went with implanon because I wanted to try that first because the mirina placement I felt was quite invasive. I have found implanon excellent and I only need to worry about it every 3 years.
Hopefully someone can give you some experiences with the mirina to help you make your choice.

I found Mirena excellent - going on 10 years - and bonus no periods :) Everyone's different, your GP can advise specific to you but generally I would say stay off Dr Google as only the bad cases seem to get up there - the silent majority never post (eg me...)

Avoid it like the plague. Yes some people are happy with it but for the ones (like me) where isn’t not a good experience it is a horrible one. For me it wasn’t just bleeding almost constantly but it has also affected my sex life even after having it removed (more then 12 months ago). After it was put it and I started having sex with my husband again I would be in pain and this is still the case after having it removed. Some drs have tried to say it couldn’t have been the mirena but I was fine before it and the pain was/is in/around my cervix (where the mirena sits).

I've had it for 2 years now. First 10 months i was pretty much constantly bleeding, feeling suicidal and homicidal for 1 week out of every month, terrible acne and facial hair, one very sore ovary and very painful breasts. I very rarely have a period now but still have all the other things but not as extreme as before. I would say that it was at least 50% responsile for a relationship breakdown as well. But saying all this it affects everyone differently but i would not recommend.
