Prolapse - sharing awareness

Prolapse - let’s talk about it

Hi everyone,
This may not be for the squeamish but I feel the more it’s spoken about the more awareness we can bring to those that maybe not have any idea like I once didn’t .

I would like to share my story

Now we’ve all seen ads for incontinence products etc heard that we need to do “kegals “ ESPECIALLY While pregnant. Maybe heard or joked about having a weak bladder after children.
This all flew over my head while I was pregnant like yeah yeah it’s all fine and dandy doing the occasional “squeeze and hold”

After my second child couple of weeks later ... I looked down to see how I was healing ... well didn’t I get a shock ... something was blocking the entry .... what is that ... omg ...

turned out I had grade 3 uterine prolapse ...
I really Wish that someone would have actually told me bluntly that if you don’t do kegals (vaginal exercises) your insides can basically be on the outside. (Please note This doesn’t happen to everyone! And pregnancy isn’t the only cause)
I researched and researched only to be even more horrified and that there are different types of prolapses, some cases more extreme then others but it can emotionally physically and mentally take a toll on you :(

I ended up going to a physio and learning the proper way to do kegal exercises to help ease symptoms and luckily my prolapse is a grade 1 now.but for some ladies kegals arnt enough.

I have joined a forum with many many other ladies around the world and the common theme is that most ladies weren’t really aware until they got a prolapse.
Some ladies legit go through hell with there prolapses where toiliting issues are constantly on their mind, some can’t stand for long , barely leave the house, Sex can become an issue either physically or just mentally and are too embarrassed.
Exercises like running out of the question now.
Surgery can be an option down the track but not always successful.
I know this is extreme and shocking to some but it’s an actual reality and is very common and I had no idea how common it was!

Maybe it’s because it’s not spoken about enough?

Please feel free to share your story too and help spread awareness.
someone maybe be going through this aswell know that your not alone.

I got a prolapse of one of my vaginal wall while I was pregnant. I ended up finishing work very early from not being able to stand up with out it popping out. It’s still there and have been referred to a physio but I’m too embarrassed to go. I agree I wish it’s more freely spoken about between women. Only months after having my son my Aunty told me she as a major prolapse And decide to finally do something about it and have surgery she did lots of research and unfortunately she’s had nothing but problems since, surgery later in life isn’t always a good idea. On top of the surgery having completions she can’t left anything over 12kg and can’t even use a cross trainer! So do those exercises!!!

I didn’t suffer a prolapse but my mum did. In her case it happened when she was 70, so not related to pregnancy. It got to the size of a small orange before she decided to tell us and let us take her to the drs as she was so embarrassed. She ended up having to go through a histerectomy (removal of uterus). As you can imagine, my sister and I are very aware, but you’re right, not all women know. Good on you for starting the conversation x
