Surprise baby

So just found out I’m pregnant
A surprise baby but not an unwanted baby

I told my partner he was shocked but seemed ok (didn’t pass out or run away) 😂

He wants to ring his parents and tell them straight away, I don’t want to tell anyone just yet till I go to the doctor and get it all confirmed. I haven’t been well so I want to make sure everything is ok before we go and announce it.

It is wrong to ask him to wait before telling everyone? I’m guessing by my estimate with symptoms and such I’d be around14-15 weeks.

Oh and does any mums know what will happen when I go to the doctor ? I’ve never had to do this before

Congratulations. The GP will usually organise for you to have a blood test and ultrasound. 14-15 weeks is quite late to find out these days but an ultrasound will give you a much better idea rather than basing on your symptoms, (although i assume you are going by periods too) as symptoms can be a very unreliable guide.
Your GP may want to do a quick internal/palpate your tummy (but they don’t always do this) to get an idea of the size of your baby.
They will also need to refer you on to hospitals etc.

I’ve never had regular periods, but my last one was about 16 weeks ago

I won’t get into trouble cuz I didn’t know will I? My partner thinks they’ll be upset I haven’t had any medical checks cuz I didn’t know :(

Nooo there is nothing to get in trouble for! Anyway you might not be as far along as you think.

PS there was a lovely lady who wrote in a few years ago. She went for an ultrasound because she had back pain. Turned out she was fullterm pregnant and in labour. Had no idea. Went straight from the ultrasound to delivery. She didn’t get in trouble.

I have a friend who didn't find out she was pregnant until she was 6 months along, you seriously couldn't tell she was by looking at her. They won't get angry, these things happen! I think waiting until it's confirmed to tell people would be best so I agree with you there. Good luck with everything :)

Youll do a test, doctor will confirm and refer youforthe scan and tellyou where tobook into midwife care.
Its great hes excited but fair enough to hold off telling everyone. Maybe tell him to choose one friend to talk to,bt someone not in the family so it doesn't spread before you announce it.
