My husband and I have just separated and I’m wondering what is the normal time to go back to maiden name?
Is it now because we are separated and have seperate houses? Or is when we file for divorce?
Or when the divorce is finalised?
Thanks IM’s

I never went back to my maiden name. Kept my ex husbands surname until I remarried 15 years later.
My mum kept her our surname until she remarried 12 years later. I wouldn't change mine either honestly.
My Mum and Dad were married for 20 years, they have been divorced for over 25 years and she still has her married name. She had it so long it was too strange to go back to her maiden name plus she liked having the same name as her kids. Your ex doesn't own the name, you don't need to give it back if you don't want to. It's just as much your name as it is his.
You can go back to your maiden name as soon as you want. Even during a marriage. I, however am not with my husband anymore but I've kept his. My maiden name was so hard for people to pronounce and spell but his is as common as Smith, so I kept it .
Didn’t bother
My mum and grandmother never did, my aunt did almost immediately.
It's very much a personal choice!
I didn't change it back because of the kids mainly. Got remarried and kept my first marriages surname.
You can change it anytime! Is a simple matter, just need your birth certificate & marriage certificate, and go for it! I hated my married name, horrible spelling/pronunciation and also the dysfunctional family history etc it was a curse, but delayed changing after DV separation because of wanting to create new surname together with my teen girls, they ended up saying would keep his surname so I said to hell with being stuck with that & just changed my own name back - Soo much happier now!!!
