QPS Admin...I have been offered an interview for an administration position at QLD Police. I am very excited but I get extremely nervous. Can anyone tell me how the interview process will work and offer any tips/advice for success? Thank you so much

With any job interview you need to show them you're capable to do the job. Study the job description and the selection criteria and make a list of questions that relate to them. Then come up with answers and examples of how you're capable of each. Like, "Can you tell us a time when you've had to work as a team" "Tell us how communication helped you achieve a goal" that kind of thing. Just come up with scenarios that you have had in real life that show you can do each thing in the selection criteria. Also write a list of questions to ask the interviewer that shows you're interested in the job like what does an average day look like? Good luck!
Thanks very much!
As a long term QPS civillian worker who's held numerous positions & a few promotions - turn around and run like fuck in the opposite direction 😂😂
Most interviews will be panel, there will be your direct manager, another manager, and usually the supervising police officer of your unit. The officer is there to intimidate you.
Depending on what position it's for, they will tell you horrific and graphic stories of things you may be exposed to - this is designed to put you off. And if you're squeamish, then be put off - you WILL hear & see things a normal person can't even imagine, even if it's not connected to your role.
They'll ask standard & boring questions like "when have you shared information with your team and what was the outcome?"
They may give you 15-30min alone with a question sheet - make notes on it, because they'll keep it.
Be brief but detailed. Dot points are great.
They'll likely ask "do you want to be a police officer in the future" - the correct answer is "no, I'd rather serve the community behind the scenes"
Honestly they don't care about your answers unless it's a niche role. Mostly they want to see how you react and hold your nerve with a large copper staring you down the whole time - so when you're introduced, look them in the eye & shake their hand.
Dependant on the role, they'll ask you something like "how will you cope with being exposed to highly graphic and horrific material?" - have a good answer ready for this.
Don't ask about flexible work arrangements - there aren't any. They talk & advertise a whole load of shit about flexible work & work life balance - it's a lie. The institution as a whole HATES any form of FWA. If you want to go part time etc, wait until you're past probation to bring it up, and be prepared to fight for it if you need it.
Sounds horrific lol.
Worst employer ever, tbh 😂
This is great info. Thank you so much!
