How to get a gifted child tested for scholarships.
Hello, we live in Melbourne VIC.
I want to get my sons IQ tested. However the test are in excess of $2500 and we cannot afford this.
My 9 year old has not the easiest life and yet against all odds, is kind, balanced and very smart, however rather disruptive in class due to boredom usually. His Naplan was 1/3 in the highest exceeding and 2/3 in 2nd highest in above average. He has always been very good academically, yet I do nothing with him homework wise. I've been a single mum for most of his life and just haven't had the time for anything extra.
All the schools programs revolve around learning disabilities. Does anyone know what I would do to get him assessments so we can apply for scholarships, affording private schools without one is not an option.
I feel like I should at least try something for him if he dosen't get a scholarship that's okay at least I made the effort for him.

His class scores should be enough plus input from teachers. No need to spend on an IQ test . His results are consistently high and noted.
Recommendations from his school and an audition (exam ) will be enough . It's all we needed for my son. He has high functioning autism and consistently excelled academically.
How did you get the exam? I was told these tests should be done between ages 6 to 9. He has had consistently high scores throughout school. His teachers always tell me how smart he is yet we have had no mention of exams or assessments for other schools. I doubt they'd want him to leave as the good Naplan results help the school. However I was hoping to be prepared for possible high school scholarships.
You have to approach the schools yourself
You need to approach the schools you are interested in and get your child to sit their scholarship exams and interviews. There are specialised academies and tutors who help kids prepare for this.
As the others said, you don't need an IQ test, approach the schools you like in the area and ask about entrance exams. I thought they only did them for high school, but may be wrong, see what's available. It's def not up to his school to tell you to apply, it's up to you to do it. A lot of smart kids in the state school system, especially primary school, if you want more, go get it done mumma x
Not all private schools offer scholarships but I'd speak to the schools and ask for more information on what scholarships they do offer (if any).
Just keep in mind also that some scholarships are for specific things rather than just an overall test score, so if your son is particularly good at a specific subject than that may be something you can focus on more.
Good luck :)
With the high school I work at NAPLAN scores aren't taken into consideration with enrollment or scholarships. Is your son exceptionally good at something like music or a certain sport?
The good private schools have academic scholarships? Have you been through the process? They have an exam you sit.
The exams are not NAPLAN based. But I'm in QLD not VIC.
I never said they are NAPLAN based, the school gives their own exam, I'm also in Qld. Don't tell this mum of an acedemically gifted child it's only for sport or music, that's utter crap. Hate misinformation.
