I moved on from a toxic job environment to somewhere safe. However I am so bored with this job. I’m not learning anything new and there is no scope for upward movement.
My current job is a permanent position. An opportunity has come up for a short contract role (with potential for permanency) where I will learn a whole heap more to help me and my career.
I’ll possibly piss off my current boss and ruin a good reference. And the new job may not go permanent. The new job is also a little further away from home but not too bad. The money will be the same.
I don’t know what to do and I’m hoping for some direction. The people in my life are supportive of whatever decision I end up making but I’m struggling to make a decision.
Has any one else ever been in this position?
How do you decide?

I've considered this also, similar situation, however, the contract roles always pay a shitload more.
I would never consider a contract role in my industry without a significant loading on normal industry ongoing wages, I think you would be crazy to leave a permanent role for a contract for the same money.
There has to be good compensation to leave your permanent role that is just boring, not doing you harm, add in extra travel time, it's a no brainer, a big fat NO.
Wait for something better to come along.
Hey, thanks for your reply. I appreciate your perspective
