what are good suburbs or suburbs to avoid in Melbourne?i am considering relocating to Melbourne after I finish my degree to be able to work in that field. I have 2 young boys so need to have good primary schools in the area and also childcare. I will most likely be working in the city or close to the city so would like to keep the commute under an hour at the absolute most. 30 - 40 mins would be ideal but the closer the better I guess. I do drive so I don't mind driving to a train station or something to get public transport into the city. Being near the beach does not bother me at all. A nice family area with parks and things for kids to do would be perfect. Also something reasonbly priced as I'm a single parent so as much as I love South Yarra that is out of the question for the time being. I am looking for anything from a small terrace house up to a large family house. Thank you

Rent or buy? What is your budget?
It all depends on your finances? Closer to the city is more expensive so draw a half circle as far out that takes 30 mins train commute and look on realestate.com. Lots of parks in Melb and lovely places but car commuting is hard. Best of luck to you.
Eltham has good train links, great parks, lovely schools and is a nice place to live. I think it is 45 minutes from the city. Nice village atmosphere, restaurants etc.
