Screaming during feeding

Screaming during feeding

I'm hoping for some advice re feeding our little girl who's 5wks old. We're solely formula feeding and as a result stop during the bottle to do some burping. We've been recommended to burp every 30mL or so however whenever we stop she screams like a crazy person through the entire burping process then we give her the bottle back and she's fine again. She's been formula fed for 4wks so it's not a new process for her. The only time she's okay with the burping is when she's drowsy (dream feed or even first feed in the morning). Any advice for a freaked out FTM please?

Aw sounds like she just wants her milk and doesn't want it taken away. If screaming stops quickly it's nothing serious so don't stress too much. You could leave her to have a bit more at the start so she is feeling a bit fuller and less desperate for it & so may not get cranky at you!

Also if you're feeding her 180mls you can probably burp her less than that, I burped once or twice a bottle. You'll get to know how often she needs it but if you're doing it too often she's probably frustrated, babies really really really enjoy drinking!

You know your baby best, if it's not working for you and bub then find another way. Try stretching out between burps and see how she goes, even go every 60ml and see if she copes okay. If she's handling it okay then go with that. Something you'll quickly discover is that there is no one "right" way to do things as a parent and listening to your instincts is the best thing to do. Good luck xx
