I'm a single mum who works shift work. My children both have serious illnesses. One however hasn't been diagnosed, this illness has been affecting my child practically since birth. Every test known to man has been performed, with no answers. Finally getting Urgent Referrals to numerous specialists. The other Has juvenile pulmonary Tachycardia. I'm trying to get a business off the ground, so I can be home for when they need me, however, at this point in time it's proving challenging. I earn about $40k a year so qualify for minimum FTB and Minimum pension. Of late, it's been bought up that I should claim Carers Paymebt for both children. A) I don't like the fact I'm on minimum payment as it is, and I'm trying to get off centrlink. B) My children are struggling with the shift work. C) I don't know the exact terms and conditions of Carers Payment and how it works, and if I would be able to claim for both children?
Do you mumma's think it would be beneficial for now, while I work at my business, to keep my shift work? Or claim the Carers payment? Im so lost in what to do...

I think in your situation it would be helpful for you to claim a carers pension, if you are entitled to one.
I dont think they are a whole lot of money though. Dont feel guilt about claiming-it doesnt have to be forever, just a support for you and your kids until life becomes more manageable again. Ring centrelink or pop in and sew them to ask all your questions
Honestly yes! You can still be away from your kids, and you might have to adjust some expenses but totally worth it. I would definitely try for it. You can be away from your child for up to 20hrs a week. It would enable for you to build your business from at home.
Plus the reassurance of not worrying about leave etc if one of your children is in hospital.
Plus you'll get health care cards, discounts on rego, power etc.
I ended up going that route for the first time about 10 years ago. It wasn't for ever just until my son was in a better place. Then I returned to work and had to go that route again 2 years ago when my son developed new complex medical problems.
Just because you are on a payment doesn't mean it is forever.
