Currently I am a primary school teacher. I have been teaching for over 10 years but the time has come for a career change. I am thinking of becoming a music therapist. I have a music background (classically trained singer and currently learning the cello). Just after personal stories about what this career is like? What do you love and hate about it? How can I go about getting qualified?

I've worked in the disability 'industry' for around 15 years. Personally I'd become a music teacher. My experience in schools and with my own son (with disabilities), is that the term therapy is grossly over stated if you want to work with children. It's basically just being a music teacher but working at the children's level.
A friend of mine is a music teacher and therapist and she earns her living mostly as a music teacher and musician.
Personally after sitting in on a lot of music therapy sessions with children they looked like any primary school music lesson!
