WATER/HOME BIRTH

WATER/HOME BIRTH

Hi everyone.
Im a 20y.o mum of a 17 month old boy and 14 weeks pregnant with my second.

I would really love to do a water birth but my local hospital doesnt do them (I am a nurse working there im %100 sure)

So my only option is a water and home birth, home birth has never really been in my thoughts but I suppose with nobody local (that id feel comfortable with) to watch our son it might be the better option.

So my questions are!

*What are the pros and cons of a home birth

*What are the pros and cons of a home birth (doula and midwife will be present aswell as partner and son)

*Has anyone had a young child with them whilst giving birth? What was the experience like?

*please tell me your experiences! Thanks girls xoxox

Pros you get your water birth in a non medical environemnt you control everything, you dont have to get up and move anywhere after, youre home (although i believe they Like you to go into a hospital after, not sure i only looked into it didnt do it.

Cons - no intervention if you decide you want it or if it turns out you need it. Specialists and equipment are at the hospital.

Have you looked into birth units or other hospitals in the area.

I had my child present and a friend to be there so we all had support if needed, it was lovely would do it all over again exactly the same.

Dont let fear rule your decision. Care, yes but not fear.
Find a midwife who believes in birth and you & speak to her about these risks. Find out what equipment she has and how and when she decides the best option is to go to hospital.

I guess because youre looking into it you already believe birth can be a natural, intervention free action. Something going wrong can be a terrifying idea, thats why we have midwives and we trust in them. But we also need to trust in our bodies that birth is natural and not inherently dangerous. Its sad that fear leads to so many people having normal labours and deliveries to hospitals and guidelines and having bad hospital experiences, its like a self fulfilling prophecy.

Thank you this is the most sensible comment ive read, I wasnt sure about the pros and cons (hence this post!)

Im obviously medically trained myself and am very close to the hospital if something was to happen, but as I said Ive never thought of doing a home birth, the only reason is to do a water birth.
Its only an option for myself.

Nobody should fear birth! I agree, horrible things happen and even IN a hospital environment cant be saved.

I choose a home birth / water birth when I birthed my son. I was FAR more concerned about going to the hospital than being at home and birthing him on my terms. I researched the history of birth and realised it was natural until religious men rode in on horse back to villages where woman would birth with all their sisters around and demanded they went to hospitals where people were going to die. Read up for yourself, it's fascinating, where we have come from and now where we have ended up. I look back on my birth experience, and although it was LONG, and things weren't simple, know I had the best person with me and had the best outcome possible. Know with my labour, if I had of been in hospital that they would have rushed me in for C-Section.
