There are no courses you need to be a teacher aide in Queensland. You will need a Working With Children Bluecard if the school is not the one your children attend.
Have you considered doing a Bachelor degree? I am about half way through a Bachelor of Education (Primary) with Swinburne Online (a section of Swinburne University of Technology in Melbourne). You have access to units online, and you find local schools to complete Prac placements. Once graduated you will be qualified to teach in any primary school! :-D
I did a Cert III in Education Support including disability support through a private training company, I hear the tafe ones are just as good though. I had a part-time job TA at a small rural school by the time my course was finished but also kept my full time nightshift factory job. My only problem was that as a fulltime worker already a TA income, even if I secured the full time position, was a massive drop so when the opportunity arose for a promotion at the factory I had to let the TA go as my new hours would clash. I don't regret the time I spent doing though.
