I have a 6 year old son who wants to earn pocket money weekly. I've gotten a whiteboard to write some jobs on but he doesn't get in from school until roughly 4:30 so I don't want to give him too much to do.
An every day thing to do is cleaning his room, I see that as a must and not something that he should be doing for pocket money. I'm trying to get him to be mindful of the mess he makes (putting toys away before he takes something else out etc) but he just trashes it. Any ideas on how to go about this?

Honestly, we don't pay for tidying up after yourself and participating in day to day household activities. That's just what you do as part of a family.
As a mum to one now adult with ASD we built things into routine. Built the habit so you don't even think about or make time for the chore in your day anymore. So we basically put a daily routine in place, that included daily activities that have to be done as part of being in a family. Putting the clean dishes away, hanging towels in bathroom after use, packing up toys before we get into bed at night etc. these jobs are non negotiable in this house.
If he wants to get paid I would attach it to a particular job you wouldn't normally expect, that can be done on weekends. Such as sweeping the driveway or raking up leaves. It's negotiable, eg if he doesn't do it, he doesn't get paid. Where as the other jobs you want him to do wether he gets paid or not.
