Hi IMs
So I'm a 37 year old stay at home mum of 2, one starting school next year and a 2 year old and I don't know what to do with the rest of my life, career wise!
My partner and I have decided to stop at two children as much as I would love to have more I do feel it would be a huge financial strain on our relationship.
I've decided to take this time before my youngest starts school to get better skills for a better job. I'm a beauty therapist of more than 20 years, I still do love what I do but the pay is rubbish! The salons that I have worked at I've usually done the training, I enjoy that which got me thinking that maybe I should actually get my qualifications and become a teacher in beauty therapy, I wouldn't mind the study and have heard the pay is great but jobs are very rare and snapped up quickly. I like the idea on being able to have the holidays somewhat free to be with the kids.
I then thought of maybe doing a teachers aid course but I have heard that it's hard to find jobs in my area and the pay is pretty much the same as what I'd be going back to.
I'm in no way trying to be a snob, I just want to better my career so I can provide a comfortable upbringing for my children, we are currently renting so would love to have our own home and have yearly holidays etc.
I guess I'm just looking for some advice or ideas, or if someone has been in the same situation and what have you done????

Would it be possible for you to set up your own salon from home?
That seems like the best option money wise and also you can set your days and hours to work around your kids.
Start small and buy more things as the business takes off.
If you dont want to do that the beauty teacher thing sounds good. Decent pay, but the hours can be long.
Teachers aides are good hours but because they are casual you wont be paid in school holidays so xmas time can be a bit tough. Also there is no guarantee that you will maintain consistent hours, one week you might work everyday and the next week might be one day.
Without knowing you and just based on this post i would say try the beauty teaching..you have 20 yrs experience and it makes sense to further your career.
