Dear sisterhood,
Seeking career guidance and not sure where to start.
I am located Victoria, Australia.
Northern, small rural town.
I am a qualified associate diploma early childhood teacher with experience in the field.
I am wanting to get into teachers aide, but don't know where to start.
We do have a lot of Catholic primary and high schools in the area and have thought chaplaincy may be of interest but don't have a firm religious background.
Any advice may be helpful

Firstly, approach each school and ask.
Usually you won’t hear of these job s unless you know someone there.
Also, as you know they are only casual positions, so you’ll need to have a backup plan as most of the jobs won’t be 5 days a week.
They may ask you to do a TA certificate or “educational support” qualification but what you have should be more than enough. Make sure your working with children check is upto date as is your police check. If you have it ready to go your more likely to be hired.
I’d also check local schools notice boards for people wanting tutors, you may be able to tutor individuals after hours, build rapport and then your more likely to Be told of ta openings.
You won’t need to be religious in order to work at a chaplaincy, but you will need to know of the religious aspects and not have tattoos, piercings or brightly coloured hair ((usually anyway))
Good luck
The positions are now called “Education Support Officer” and there are certificates III & IV available online and via TAFE. You will probably get RPL for some of your assosicate diploma but the courses concentrate more on how to assist children with special needs rather then just general education.
Lots of opportunity for disability support workers as NDIS rolls out in each area. Look into a site like Hire Up. You don’t necessarily need any experience or qualifications.
Volunteering at a school might get you in the door. Like work experience, it’ll show you if it’s something you would enjoy
