Starting apprenticeship as a young mum

Hi mummas. I'm a 30yo single mum, and my lifelong passion/obsession has been anything food/cooking related. I'm quite good, all my spare time is used reading, watching, experimenting with food and I started my own small dessert business a couple years ago which has been pretty successful but I'm spend more time on bus admin than cooking so not ideal. Years ago I applied for a chef apprenticeship as i have such a thirst to learn, at one of Melbourne's best restaurants which i actually got, but then had to decline as my emotionally abusive (ex) husband basically said 'no, in your dreams'. It was heartbreaking. I've since pulled myself away from the destructive relationship, I'm now single and desperate to learn to cook professionally, and potentially take on an apprenticeship but don't know if this is possible while I'm looking after my young son 6 days on 5 days off. Is there anyone in the industry who can confirm or deny the possibility of a restaurant wanting someone like me?? I'd basically be willing to work my nuts off for the five days straight and know I have a ridiculous amount of passion and experience to offer. Any thoughts on whether this might be doable given a lot of apprenticeships involve after hours work (I dont have family who can babysit) or am I just being selfish pursuing this dream while my son is a toddler? xx

You aren’t selfish. You just need to organise appropriate childcare to suit your working hours. Look at family daycare if you don’t have family that can help.
