9 month old self weaning

9 month old self weaning

After a bout of mastitis and antibiotics to treat it my 9 month old has decided to wean himself. The problem is I can’t get him to take a full bottle.. I’ve tried formula and expressed breast milk. He will take about 40ml from it. He eats ok - 3 meals a day - mainly finger foods. He eats cheese but is not a big fan of yoghurts. He drinks a fair amount of water from his sippy cup and small amounts of milk. His nappies are wet, but obviously not like they used to be. My question is..is this enough to nourish him? I’m worried that at his age he should be having more milk feeds. Thanks Mummas x

everything you have said suggested that it isn’t a “need” for him. And he still has lot a of wet nappies. Does he sleep well, content?

I usually tend to think by that age, we can take their lead. But I’m no expert. My daughter weaned off breast just before her 1st birthday and I couldn’t get her to take a bottle of anything besides water in a sippy. She has some diary, but she’s never been a huge fan.

I think so long as they sleep okay, wet nappies, eating good nutritious solids, then it should be fine.

Like I said, I’m not a professional. So if you’re still not sure, go see your MCHN and see what they say.

Will he take a sippy cup? You coukd put formula or breastmilk in one and try to see if he will take it? Speak to your MCHN and see what she advises.
