To move or not to move to the USA

Any Aussie families moved to America? We have family over there and they made a lot of good points. I love change but i also fear it. Has anyone here done it successfully? We both have jobs that we can easily find over there.

I wouldn't for two main reasons. Their gun laws (or lack of) and their healthcare system.

My family here and there have guns and are responsible gun owners. Family pays for their healthcare and have had no issues when needing to use it.

It's not the responsible gun owners you need to worry about, it's the irresponsible ones!

Different commenter, you better hope you get a job with healthcare because the cost is outrageous. Agree with the above, it’s not your family you have to worry about.

I think anyone considering the move is crazy, with the lack of gun laws and the compromised safety risks. You have it so good here, i just couldn’t fathom a move there at all. It’s not your family you have to worry about, it’s the idiots that roam free to shoot up schools and what not!

I would never move there but since Trump got in, I think you would have to be insane. School shootings, no HECS to rely on for kids to go to uni, gun laws, racism (worse than here), the inconsistent state by state justice system, the low minimum wage (when your kids get a part time job), the constant tipping, not accessibility but actual cost of healthcare etc. Do you guys have dual citizenship? I would go for a holiday but never live there.

America is a great place to live if you're wealthy, because in reality, they are the only people who aren't effected by the lack of decent healthcare or the current political climate.
The crime rate in the states is also something to consider. Lack of gun control and mass shootings aside (which is a massive issue in it's self), the crime rate is explosive compared to Australia.

Those would be the deciding factors for me, all the benefits and opportunities aren't worth the sacrifices it would take to live with the above issues in my opinion.

Do it :)
My friend moved their and loves it. Depends on the state and suburb - like everywhere.
Yes, gun laws are lax, but honestly, the incidents are extremely small per capacitor.
Choose your state, and look at local laws to help your decision. Look at school districts and of course crime rates in the area.

Check your pay rates for your job - less taxes and ensure your coming out in front.
Do it, if it all fails...you can always come back home with adventures to talk about :)

Two words: guns and Healthcare. Just to name two. What about education? Would you kids go to college/uni? How would you fund that? Wages - are they on par with what you'd be getting here in Aus?

Personally, I might visit US one day once the orange buffoon is in jail, but live there? No way. I dont want yo worry every single day if this was going to be the day my 6yo's classroom is going to be shot up by some psycho.

Wow at the other comments! From people who haven’t ever lived there! I’ve lived there many times and loved it. I also married an American and we lived there and in Aus. The changes of a new home are exciting and sometimes annoying, I learnt to love each place for their good points and deal with the negatives I don’t like. The immigration process can be a handful but we have done it both ways so it’s a pain no matter which way you go. I think if you have an opportunity and you want to try it, you will work through the obstacles to make it work.

OMG you are so lucky! What have you got to lose? Make a year plan. Pack your stuff into storage and go for it. Life is so short. Jump on the opportunity. You can always come home. I would do it in a flash just for the experience for my kids and myself. I loved America when I went. As for the gun owners, helllo we have irresponsible gun owners here too. Don’t let people’s commnts put you off regarding their gun laws. Go for it. What an amazing opportunity. You can always come back.

I agree. I'm actually dumbfounded at the comments on here clearly driven by mainstream media with an agenda.
If you have the means and opportunity I'd be out of here!!! An adventure and you can always come back if you don't like it.

Yes, mainstream media totally just fabricate stories about mass shootings, crimes rates and the healthcare crisis to push their political agenda 🤔
