To all the Mamas that are Education Support Officers (Teacher Aides),
I am currently studying to become an ESO. I am a single mama of 3 kids (13,7 & 2 years). I have no family support and 2 of my 3 have additional needs, so working in school hours is all I can do.
I know the work can be sparse as an ESO, so what other work do you in this field to make ends meet? I need stability, so that I'm not unnecessarily paying childcare fees. Thank you.

I’m an ESO and have been doing it for 5 years. To be honest, you really need to love what you do because the pay is not great and you won’t necessarily have starting times where you can drop your kids at school and pick them up. I start at 9 and finish at 3:30, 5 days a week, so I can’t do school drop/pick up. Thankfully I have family close by. I originally started on 13 hours a week and have gradually increased when hours became available. Unfortunately it’s not always the most stable job as if funding ceases your hours could too or be cut. The bonus is I get paid holidays when my children are on holidays and overall it’s a very rewarding job and absolutely love it. Good luck.
