DSP / Centrelink / Unable to Work - Help Please , Advice

Hi All, I need help... married 2 kids and I’ve progressively become worse over time, depression, anxiety, medication, unable to hold down a job due to this, (these are just the surface) I’ve been seeing my dr , today I broke down badly it’s been weeks in the making and I finally seen my dr and everything around me came crashing ... Next step I’m waiting for the Acute mental team to assses and make the decisions, mental health ward for help, psychiatrist... My Dr has advised to seek assistance from Centrelink - DSP claiming and Newstart in the time being. Our finances are dwindling... me not working - I’m stressing ... I dunno ... This is affecting my daily life ... I’m a mess ... My head is a mess ... Help ?! Advice anyone please

Sadly you will only be entitled to Centrelink if your partners income is below the threshold. If you cannot work it is your partners responsibility to take care of you financially.

There is a baseline for the DSP but it’s not a lot. And your husband could claim Carers Allowance (not carers payment) too but this also isn’t much. When applying for a DSP you are going to need a comprehensive letter from your specialist and a letter from your GP. It needs to state your condition has been stabilised for 2yrs and in that time you have been doing all treatments possible and that the condition is permanent and will not improve. You also have to look at their chart out of 20 and score high enough and be fit for 0 hours of work.

This information is not completely accurate. It includes misinterpretation of the legislation.

What do you mean it’s not completely accurate? I have a friend currently in Mental Health ward in QlD and her Dr and Psychiatrist have provided evidence to state her illness and it hasn’t been declined, she had a employee capacities Centrelink appointment and was told the claim met criteria... ?
