Hi All,
I am a mum of three beautiful children aged 4, 3 and 14 months. My problem is i hate my youngest childs name. my husband and i agreed on the name when he was born but from that day i havent been able to connect to it at all. Nothing about him suits his name and no matter what i try i cant get used to it. i have a great relationship with my son and with his older two siblings i never had this issue. i have mentioned changing it to family when he was about 6 months old but it blew up with everyone getting really angry at us about the idea. Has anyone else felt this way and changed their childs name this late or have eventually gotten used to it? How do i explain it to my family and other children if we do change his name? How do i try and connect with his name if we dont change it. Please Help.
Thank you

Why not try finding him a nick name that u like, then he can go by that name and just use his real name for important things, just remember if his young the nick name is going to be with him for his life so pick something alittle grown up.
I agree with the first response. Also if he has a middle name you could call him by that instead. I agree the nick name needs to be able to last through to adulthood.
Up until my son was about 3 I couldnt connect with his name at all. It wasnt my choice, my husband picked it and i settled on it and the name I LOVED I chose for his middle name. For 3 years after he was born all I wanted to do was called him by his middle name. He suited it far better in my mind. But then I just 'got over it'. I dont know what happened but suddenly he suited his first name and I was fine with it.
I dont have any advice for you on how to be ok with it but as another said, a nickname could be a good compromise until he gets older and fits into his name better.
My dad goes by his middle name, to be honest I always thought Eric and Kym was like Robert and bob.
Only work call him Eric.
Our lil girl's name is Alira our inlaws told us how they felt about it and we caved, and call her Ali.
I don't think we have ever called her Alira, we do ask her what she wants she is only3.5yrs old, and likes Ali. Daycare call her Alira.
