How to cope with stress

Dear sisters

Going through some pretty hectic stuff right now and I'm finding it really hard to cope and not to worry bout it. not only my future but my childrens future.

I have two autistic children one is high functioning

Our home is becoming unsafe to live as the owners r refusing to fix anything and have given us 60 days to move out cos they want demolish the house and break our lease

Mean while attending inspections in all areas in the north and trying to find suitable schools for my children

I'm 22 weeks pregnant and all of this cant come at a worse time as I just spent 4 months stressing over my baby may be born with birth defects has been proven now not to be true.

My partner works away and is only here on weekends

By March next year I will have 3 boys under 4 and a 8 year old

Has any one got any ideas how to cope

Attend inspections on school days and research schools on the internet and check them out in person on other days. For me I knew where I was moving too. I was 32 weeks pregnant with 3 kids 1 HFA one low functioning ASD and a ADHD. There was only one schooling option. I talked to the school I was at. We had social stories made because it wasn’t an end of year move and. Had all paperwork filled out and handed in with their starting date on it. They had EA’s organised before I got there and they started the day they did. But I had decided on this move at least 10 weeks prior. If you move into the same area you will not have to change schools and if you’re lucky you can stay enrolled at the same school just get your mail redirected and don’t hange your address with them.

Make an appointment with your states consumer protection or whoever deals with tenancy agreements in your state to see if the eviction is all good and see if you're entitled to a payout from the owners for breaking the lease. I know when my lease was broken because the house was sold the owners had to pay us. This was over 10 years ago. Also since you're possibly living in a house that's uninhabitable it may be illegal for them to be receiving any rent from you.

Have a back up plan in case you don't find a house in time! Hire a storage unit so you can start moving stuff into it. This will help take some stress off because you're taking action and when you do move it will be easier as most of your stuff is already packed. See if you can stay with relatives if you don't find a place or start asking around at residential caravan parks. Not ideal but it's temporary and you may not even have to use it, this is just your back up plan and a roof over your kids heads if need be!

I agree with the other poster about deciding on a school first and going from there. Treat house inspections like you're trying to sell your family. If you must take your kids make sure they are clean and well dressed and quiet give them a tablet or something! I used to hate taking my kids to inspections because they loved the sound of an empty house and would go crazy! So I always tried to go alone but I know that's not always possible. Make sure your car is really clean. Make sure you're going for houses within your means and are big enough for your family because they can't accept you if it's outside of your budget or too small.

You could also send an email off to all the real estates asking about rentals and briefly explain your situation without being too personal and the areas you're looking in etc.

Good luck with it all! You will find a house, that's a given! You just need a back up plan in place just in case it takes a bit longer than your 60 days!
