Beauty therapy... should I?!

Beauty therapy... should I?!

I am fresh from high school and currently at university studying Education. Dealing with depression and anxiety disorders is taking it's toll, and I am caught as to whether this is really for me to begin with. I am after advice on studying and then working within the beauty industry and salaries. I have suffered with terrible skin for years, thus have spent many hours under the light of a beautician and I do have a genuine interest in the area.

I am so caught and anxious, and I just need help! Please, I don't need "you'll regret leaving", just advice on the occupation itself and experiences. Many thanks. x

My best friend left everything to study beauty as she was really passionate about it. She finished her course but found it really competitive. The only job sHe could get was at myer and it wasn't much money. She's left now to go back to uni...

Is there a careers counsellor at uni? How far are you into the education degree? Could you take a year off, or study part-time? These are other options you could look at. I know nothing of the beauty industry so can't help with that, but thought I'd throw some other ideas your way to see if one of those would help.

Do what youre interested in! You can defer your course and pick it up later if you decide. The fact you are already unsure, anxious & depressed doesnt sound good. Follow your happiness :)

Honestly, coming from experience, find what you're passionate about and do it! If that means half starting a dozen different uni degrees then do it. If it means leaving for 3-4 years, travelling or doing different jobs do it. I did 1 year at uni straight after high school, 6 months in psychology and 6 in journalism and despite having planned my future in both for several years discovered I really didn't like either of them! I then worked at Coles, as a receptionist and then as an admin assistant for the government. During that time I found the love of my life, got married, have two kids and have now found my passion in nutrition and exercise. I've just completed a world renowned course in nutrition, we own our own PT studio and plan to expand into a gym within 2 years.

I hope that helps a little. Sorry I couldn't be more help regarding the occupation side of things.

Seriously though, find your passion and chase it. Good luck!
