Weightloss, medication and body confidence.

I'm a big Imperfect Mum married and with 3 kids. After having the kids over the years I now weigh 111kg. I had every kind of depression there is and very difficult pregnancies. I work with a personal trainer and the doctor has now put me on Durimine to help with the weightloss. Has anyone had success with it and if you had any side effects were they severe? I've just reached the point where I don't want to be this size anymore. I want to have the energy to run around after my kids and not be self conscious taking them to the beach or the pool as I never do that now because of hating feeling like a whale. I have a daughter and want to show her that being this big is not normal and that with exercise and a balanced diet you can have a body you can feel confident in. I never have felt sexy and confident. Now that I'm in my 30's I want to have the body and confidence I have always wanted and enjoy my life with my family.

Yes I have. I was in a similar position to you and couldn't get out of my slump or gain any traction. Just moving felt awful and I had zero energy. The GP and I discussed and although we agreed it's not the ideal way to loose weight in the long term that it was worth using it my case to get back on track. It gave me A LOT of energy which made moving and exercising easy, and got me back on track that way. It also helped me eat a lot less. I still had to do the work as far as getting things in place regarding why I over eat so when I came off the meds I was ready. I had built more muscle and was extremely fit so was able to do a lot more when coming off. I still have to be extremely vigilant regarding my weight and exercise a few years later but I've never been in that dreadful hole I felt I was in before. The only side effect I had was a feeling if not sleeping deeply enough.

How long were you on it for? Did you find your heart raced? And how long did it take for you to see results?

I personally didn't have the racing heart but knew it was a potential side effect. It worked really quickly. Within days I was moving a lot more. I found I very quickly was able to exercise twice a day for at least an hour. I eventually got up to running 16kms a day. I easily lost 5 kgs a week from memory. I eventually lost all up 60kgs taking me down to 60kgs. I gained about 6 kgs back so sitting around 66. Best of all though I'm physically fit still and have energy. I certainly lost a kilo or two the first week.

I would be incredibly careful with anything like that. As a nutrition coach, to me straight off the bat it sounds like you have some pretty bad metabolism damage. Going on Duromine and restricting your calories isn't going to help you and in fact could make that worse, potentially leading to other health issues later down the track. I'd like to recommend you find a nutrition coach who has experience with helping people in similar situations. Yes it will take you longer to see results as fixing your metabolism can take anywhere from 2-6 months (sometimes more depending on your situation) during which time you may not see the results you want, however once you can get over that speed bump you will find things really start to pick up for you.

Please feel free to email me at [email protected] and I'm happy to point you in the right direction and give you some tips to get you started.

Whatever way you go, good luck with your journey :)
