Pregnancy after a C-section

Hello 🙂

Just after some advice/opinions! I had my first baby in December 2020. I love him to absolute bits and I cannot wait to have another one! I had an emergency c-section and planning to have another when I have another baby. How long after a c-section did you start trying for your second baby?

The best person to ask is your doctor. There are recommended wait times and risks with having a baby too soon, such as a ruptured uterus.
Yes, some people will get lucky and have no problems having a 2nd baby super quick, but they got lucky.
I wouldn’t even consider trying until at least the 12 month mark. Babies change a lot over this time, and your body has had massive surgery and really needs to recover internally, no matter how you feel externally.

My dr has given me the go ahead for baby number 2 whenever I’m ready. Just wondering how long others have waited.

The OB who performed my emergency c-section recommended 18 months - 2 years. I never tested his theory (I ended up being a one and done mum) but I think that's pretty sound advice

While not actively trying nor preventing I Fell pregnant with my 2nd just after my son turned 16 months old. I had a normal 1st pregnancy but emergency c section in the end. I fell 1 month after stopping breast feeding which my dr put down 2 one normal cycle then boom baby. My dr did say that I was ok to start trying after 12 months just to give everything extra time to settle and if we planned on more than 1 more that it would be better to give my insides time to heal properly

I was told wait 12 months to try :) 18 months for birth. Optimal 2 years - I had my daughter 2 years following my first csection

So my mother had 6 kids in 7 years...
Emergency ceaser, VBAC, emergency cesarean x 3 in the space of 5 years!! Yep - 5to,4yo,4yo(10m apart) 3,2, then had tubes tied... tubes untied and pregnant again. And had the last sibling came like 18m later. So not much of a gap between us.
It was harsh on her body - she doesn’t have issues atm with reproductive issues but has hit menopause and requires a big hit of HRT.

She doesn’t regret it, but said with each pregnancy it got harder, and she has a constant pouch on her stomach that is quite protruded and her OBGYN said her she has put too much strain on her internal organs. Her gastroenterologist has said a few years ago that her bowel has misshapen and it could have been caused by all the constant pressures ((she had a super sensitive GI tract now)) and didn’t used to before kids - but now can have constant cramping and can’t eat spicy/garlic/onion/tomato foods or she’s doubled over in pain.

So get it cleared before you continue, there’s always success stories !

She also said to organise beforehand if you want a planned cesarean as it’s less harsh on the body then an emergency as in an emergency situation they can cut different areas which can affect healing, where if it’s planned they may be able to follow precision incision lines. Unless of course you want to try for a VBAC.

I had two Caesar Salad babies. They were 5 years apart. My mum had 2 caesar salad births 12 months apart.

Give your body time to heal, wait at least 12 months, what’s the hurry?
You could have permanent issues later on in life.
