Overeating

Does anyone have some successful stories about how they overcame over-eating/emotional eating/eating from boredom, etc?

I have a real issue with food, I tend to have a very ‘all or nothing’ approach with it. I know I 100% eat way too much, and it’s not junk food, just food in general. I’m not looking for recommendations for diets, I need to tackle the root cause of this problem.

It’s not all time, but it’s definitely a lot more now that I’ve reduced my working hours and I’m home more. While I’m at work it’s not an issue, because I’m busy and not thinking about eating.
Days that I’m at home with my kids though, terrible! I will literally eat all day, and usually it’s because of boredom. Even if I try to keep busy,
I’ll be thinking about what I can eat next, and always feel completely disgusting by the end of the day.
I’m not a huge person, my BMI would indicate that I’m overweight, but because I’m quite tall and relatively active, it’s not too bad appearance-wise.
I just feel gross on the inside and am sick of this cycle I put myself through.
I do struggle with anxiety, particularly socially, I don’t know if I may be using food as a comfort tool also as I have no real friends.

What’s worked for you to overcome this?

I'm at home atm. I used to eat from boredom but wasn't home enough for it to become an issue.

So, early on I realised I needed to set rules. I only eat at certain times, and only then, if I'm hungry. I also set flexible rules around what I eat & how much. Breakfast, then a coffee for morning tea anytime from 9:30-11am, lunch anytime I'm hungry (usually between 11:30 & 1pm). Afternoon snack if needed might be small portion of unsalted mixed nuts & small dinner portion. It's not rigid but reminds me to check if I'm hungry or just filling time. I do struggle after dinner & have a couple of snack options.

I also find things to do to distract me. I find if I get out for a walk on weekend mornings I feel much better. I find we look for our comfort to have something to think about, something to do & we don't have to think about what's missing. So find another thing to do instead of eating. Eventually you'll retrain yourself to recognise when you are hungry.

This was me. I lived to eat not ate to live . So i challenged myself with what i call the 100g a day lazy keto eating plan I have lost 11 kilos so far. All as it means is i eat no sugar and very low to no carbs at the rate of a 100g weight loss every single day. Eventually i just stopped feeling hungry and focussed on other things i enjoy. Its the sugars in food that makes people hungry. Once sugar is removed so is your appetite and hunger cravings. This takes willpower in the early first 3 weeks. Then it gets too easy. When i see the scales moving 100g down every single day, thats all the motivation I need to stay on track . Try this!
