Pregnancy termination in qld

Has anyone in qld had a pregnancy termination within the last year or so? I am going to have one (please don’t judge me). Should I be going to the day clinic and having it done? Or has anyone used the pills you take at home? What was it like? What would you suggest is best? What are your experiences and how far along were you? And also prices? Thankyou

You can only do medical termination (tablets) up to a certain point in your pregnancy, and there are no guarantees that you won't have to get surgical intervention anyway, if the products aren't passed by the body there is an infection risk.

Your doctor will be able to advise you which method will be suitable for your situation.

I can't help you on prices, but if you add a location you might be able to get more specific info on where and how much.

All the best xxx

I had a medical abortion (pills) last august at 5 weeks/ 3 days
Marie stopes, it was over the phone, $380
I was sent the pack, contains the pills, pain killers , pregnancy test for after 2 weeks to make sure there’s nothing left,
I was comfortable in my own bed/ ensuite, I didn’t want to go to a clinic,
I was sent panadeine forte and nurofen and didn’t have to take any of them, just slight period pains,
All was successful, good luck!

I have had both a d&c and medical termination with the pills. The pills cost more as other I'd covered under Medicare. Pros and cons..pills you can take at home. But can be very painful and traumatic. Have someone with you during and after to care for you if possible. Hospital- you go under and don't feel a thing. Both were hard, but I got through it. Hospital option usually if after 9 weeks so ask your go x

I would choose the surgical procedure over the pills. The pills were a horrible horrible experience for me and I ended up with retained tissue so I had to have a surgical procedure anyway to remove the rest of it. Surgical, they sedate you (you go to sleep) then you wake up in the recovery room where they give you something light to eat and drink. No pain or issues after. I was 8 weeks along. Good luck ❤️ and just remember that no one has a right to judge you for your decision. And you are also allowed to grieve your baby ❤️

Hi IM. I work in sexual health in Qld, and I have also had a surgical termination at 12 weeks. First of all, please make sure to take care of your mental health through this time. There are counselling services available for women in your position that are free, confidential and over the phone.
I would encourage you to have a surgical termination. Medicals can be traumatic and painful And it is a longer process than a surgical. You also have to be under 9 weeks gestation to have a medical, depending where you go.
Cost will vary hugely depending on where you get it done and how far along you are. If you meet certain criteria you may be able to get funding through children by choice, or if you are in the cairns/townsville area and meet criteria you can access Qld health funding and not be charged at all. Either chat to your GP or ring CBC or the termination clinic to ask. My termination cost almost $1200 5 years ago.
Private health can cover some of the cost. Also, if you choose a surgical and are planning on getting either an IUD or implanon, I recommend getting it done at the same time so you’re asleep for it :)
Finally, please make sure you have a good support network. A partner, friend or someone you can trust to help you through this time. You are making the right choice for your circumstances at this point in your life, and you will find that wherever you choose to go the staff will be supportive, caring and non judgemental. If you have any other questions let me know x

I'm in QLD and had a medical termination last year after failed emergency contraceptive, at a cost of $400.
I visited a GP, had first appointment to ask for the termination, was sent for blood tests and ultrasound. 2nd appointment I was given the 1st of the 2 pills to terminate, as well as a prescription for pain killers and anti nausea medication.
I took the 2nd pill at home. Short time later I had period-like cramps and bleeding similar to a very heavy period. Heavy bleeding for around 3-4 hours, then became like a regular period. Lasted about 10 days, the last few days was very light.
My experience was not particularly painful or traumatic. I am 12 months post termination, and thankful I did it.

I've had a medical one and a one surgical and I advise EVERYONE to not use the medication. It is cheaper but not by a lot and it was extremely traumatic for me. I was in excruciating pain for days, there isn't really a time frame so I had to take so much time off work, I threw up the entire time and it was just horrific. The surgical one was scary to be put under but it was quick and i felt very looked after.
