I have applied twice in the last 6 months to to upskill through TAFE and have been rejected on both occasions 🤷♀️. Neither of the certificate courses I tried to enrol in have pre-requisites and I have no other formal qualifications. I am currently unemployed and have been out of the workforce for over a decade. After spending the last 18 months or so trying to get a job I thought doing something through TAFE would help me secure employment. I just get told that there are limited places and I missed out. Sadly I can’t afford to study through a private organisation as there is no financial assistance and I would much prefer to study face to face anyway. Is there a trick to getting into TAFE these days or is it only available to the young (I am over 50)?

Do you have a job network provider that can help you get in? You also may even need to do another course before the course to use as a prerequisite to admission.
I don’t receive any benefits so I don’t get any support from a Job Network Provider. Neither courses require prerequisites. Apparently the demand for TAFE in Qld is huge and there are limited places. I am wondering if it is because I am over 50. 🤷♀️
Wow I am shocked to hear this as my local QLD Tafe shut down recently due to lack of interest.
I am on the Sunny Coast and a lot of the courses have been discontinued or are now only online. I want to do a Certificate in Health Admin but the demand is huge and there are limited spaces. Kids coming straight out of school can do most TAFE courses for free so I am presuming they get priority.
I did my health administration course through Foundation Education online if that helps
What course are you trying to get into ?
