Car Seats

Car Seats

Just wondering if anyone could tell me what to do, my son is 5 next week and weighs 30 kg and I can't find a car seat he can fit his shoulders in, the rules say he has to be in a seat until 7, so what do I do?

Yes he's in a booster seat now.

The rules also say if their height and weight are bigger than average, too big to fit their level of carseat, then they can move up to the next level. They must have exhausted all options in their own though, for example just because hes above the level (outgrown) his seat, there may be other seats that fit him which you would have to buy first (it seems you have) and they must fit the line markers & geight & weight recommndations of the seat they use.

I've taken him to every shop that sells car seat and he can't fit in any. I might drop into a police station and just ask. Thanks :)

I don't want to shoot you down but police (as a rule) are pretty clueless on the carseat laws so they may not be much help.

There are rta approved fitting stations who can help you. :)

If there is literally not a seat on the market (try the new InfaSecure Evolve though, they're supposed to fit kids till age 8) that his shoulders will fit in, try to find a secondhand bum-booster. They're not allowed to be sold new or manufactured but (I *think*) they're still allowed to be used. There is obviously no side impact protection in these but it will sit your son in the seat belt correctly.
