Night terrors!

Night terrors!

Hi Ladies,

I have a 4, 5 and 10 year old. Shared custody. Week on week off. I don't communicate with their dad due to his narcissism.

The last few times the kids have been with me my 5 year old is having night terrors nearly every night within an hour or 2 after he falls asleep. He wakes up screaming. Tonight's one lasted 13 minutes, the longest one yet.
He started school this year so I don't know if that has anything to do with it, but it's really starting to get worse. He wakes up screaming, crying, just sitting up in bed. He will get more hysterical and start bouncing his legs up and down in a crossed leg sitting. You can't wake him, he doesn't respond to touch or speaking to him. When I ask him in the morning if he remembers, he has no idea. 😥

Has anyone dealt with this before? My eldest had it but not nearly as often/extreme as my 5 year old is showing. Please shed some light.

It would probably be worth a chat with your GP and possibly getting a referral to a psychologist who works with young children to try to get the cause. Are the other children able to tell you if this happens at their father’s house?

Speak to him or get him to draw pictures of things that may have happend while at dads house. question your other kids too in a round about way to make sure nothing has happened. It also could be from many things like school, watching tv or playing games etc. i know some kids who went through this.
