Gold Coast in Winter

Gold Coast in Winter

I'm thinking of taking my nieces to the Gold Coast in early July while I have them for school holidays.
Wondering from those who live there/been there in Winter, is it worth going in Winter? Can you still swim at the beach? Is it cold (I'm from Melbourne so our Winters are cold)?
Am I better to wait until Summer school holidays.

Appreciate the info. Xx

Being from Melbourne, what do you consider cold?
Would you normally swim in 20°c weather?
The other thing to consider is that although average temps are low 20's there's no guarantee of sunny days when you book.
Alternately, summer is savage if you're not used to it. How about Spring holidays instead?

Winter is great there because there's less crowds. If the weather is nice there's no reason why you couldn't go to the beach..im sure you won't be alone. However there is soooo much to do there that if it's a bit too cold for swimming you will absolutely find a ton of things to keep you all occupied

I would not go swimming, they still have a winter. Should be fine for everything else though.

I moved here from another state and I would advise against the beaches there. It’s fine if you swim between the flags but I find the beach’s here so dangerous. I don’t allow my kids to swim in any unless I’m right by their side. The rips and waves. I wouldn’t worry about the beach so much just stick to the pools at your hotel. Winters are fine much warmer compared to Melbourne. We have just gone through awful weather here in summer.

I am also saying this due to the amount of drownings in the past few years of living here.

Sorry, I'm not OP but do you regret moving here? I moved here from VIC in 2020 and I am regretting it. I'm thinking of going back. Does it get better?

That is a shame. I think you probably need to give it a while longer. You moved here in the worst 2 years. Hopefully it gets better for you now that things are getting back to normal. I don’t regret it but if I stop enjoying it, I will move in to a new place. It may also be where you are living.? Try a new area maybe?

Not OP. I always thought you HAD to swim betweem the flags for it to be safer 🤷‍♀️

Always swim between the flags. They put the flags on the safe place to swim!

Yes obviously you do but many don’t, but I know a lady who nearly drowned recently swimming between then the flags. Watching 2 kids get dragged out to sea, She instantly jumped into the help them when they were in trouble. Lifeguards didn’t even see it until she got into trouble.
