Hello, I’m looking for some guidance or to hear from ladies who have gone through something similar.
My first born, 10 years ago. (I was only 18)
Was an emergency C section after being induced 10 days after due date. We did 13 hours of labour before I had to be rushed in for a C section. My body didn’t dilate. We got to 3cm but I had been 2 cms for 1, 2 weeks prior. So technically only went an extra 1cm during labour.
My body didn’t take the epidurals (tried twice)
So I had to be put under, the drug that was used to put me under I had an anaphylactic reaction to, and had to be bought back to life with defibrillator ect.
I was sent to ICU. Baby was fine.
Unfortunately I missed out on meeting my baby until I was awake out of my induced coma. His aunts, uncles, great grandparents all met him before me.
For this reason, I’ve always said I’ll be doing a C section so I can go in knowing what will happen and smooth sailing.
I’m pregnant again, yay! 20 weeks along.
But I remember the pain of my C section, the recovery for me, was awful. (Also suffered from anaphylaxis so my body was not good)
I’m worried about going through that pain again, but what if my body doesn’t allow a natural birth again? My first borns head would not have fit (Drs words)
The midwife’s and Drs are open to both. I’m cleared for whatever choice I make.
VBAC - uterus rupture sounds so scary.
But I’d love to not have heavy meds and be able to walk about after I give birth.

A C section under emergency conditions would be totally different to a planned C section.
Firstly, they know what you react badly to now, so they can create a plan to avoid that. They also won’t have the urgency to get baby out so they will be able to take more care during surgery etc. Your body shouldn’t have to be put through defib again (that would be painful in itself) or a coma.
I think you are going to have anxiety which ever way you go though.
I would have a chat to your Dr and see if you can find out why you didn't dilate, is that likely to happen again? What did they try? That is what was stopping you having a natural birth so I would be following those questions up before deciding. If it's likely to happen a second time and drugs, hormones were tried to speed things up and failed then yeah I would probably opt for a CS again. If it was all circumstantial like wrong position and not likely to happen again I would give natural birth a go as long as Dr was OK with it. If you need an emergency Cs again, have trust that none of the nightmare you had the first time will happen again as they will know you can't have that anaesthetic.
