Holiday Planning

I’m trying to decide where to go on holidays. Our 3 eldest want to go to the Gold Coast and do the theme parks and outback spectacular. Has anyone done a Queensland holiday? Can you suggest places to stay for a large family - there will be 9 of us including a 6 month old ? Is it better to drive or fly up there - we are based in NSW. What are your must do’s on the Gold Coast? Where is the best place to get tickets?

I have not been to the gc since I was a kid but as for accommodation with large families it's really hard to find somewhere that will take you all in one space. You may need to book two rooms next to each other so there's you and half the kids in one room and dad and half the kids in the other. Or book an air bnb. We have a large family and always book air bnbs for holidays because hotels and resorts wouldn't take families with more than 6 people.

I would drive if I was you. So much to do and see when you have a car and loads cheaper. Mount Tamborine, natural bridge, Springbrook, oreillys, mountains view alpaca walks and winery. Currumbin rock pools, day trip to southbank in Brisbane is awesome and free swim area on the river bank. Cheap cafe for fish n chips amongst many other resturants. Stay at SeaWorld a and get theme parks included. Depends on dates you can get $250 a night with theme parks. Stay there for a few nights and get theme parks done. Cheapest way to do it and get an apartment ent for the rest of the time once you have done theme parks. Outback spectacular so expensive so we haven’t done that yet.

I'd drive and look at renting a house (stayz etc).
Depending on how long you'll be in QLD, look at short term at the Goldie then go to the Sunshine Coast for the rest of it.

Tbh after the last post on QLDers and their feelings on the “Southerners”. That’s the last place on my radar to travel hehe.

But in all seriousness- I think driving so you have access to your car is amazing. However if you stay centrally you will most likely be able to catch public transport to theme parks etc

Haha I know, I am in QLD and we aren’t all like that. Some people seriously. Tourism is how this place survives. They all whinged being locked down through covoid, no jobs or tourists 🤦🏼‍♀️

We are heading there later in the year we are a large family, we are flying and we will be hiring a car, you can hire large family vehicles/people movers. Genesis apartments have large apartments for big families and its affordable.
