Uber Eats Driving

Hi All!

With Christmas and school holidays coming up, I’m looking to earn some extra cash. I was thinking about signing up to deliver for Uber Eats. I’m just wondering if it will be worth it? And how it works given that I already have a full time job? (For example, will I pay double tax because it’s a second job? What are the costs associated with having an ABN come tax time? Etc.)

Any help and information would be much appreciated!

Are Uber Eats drivers sole traders? There's no extra costs involved in having an ABN, in fact it could work in your favour as you will be able to claim a lot of expenses to get your income down. Most people with more than one job will pay more of the PAYG tax but at the end of the financial year when it's all sorted it is no more than if you earnt the same amount from one job. Example one person with 2 jobs that have total earnings of 90k pays the same amount of tax as one job that makes 90k. Just make sure you only pick the tax free threshold for one job. You only have to pay GST if your sole trader income is over 80k which probably won't happen because you will only be doing it sometimes. I agree to join a fb group to get more advice as there would be a lot of people who do it for a second job.
