I don’t want to get scammed. Hey sisters, looking for some help. Does anyone know or have experience with a finance company called MWL? They provide financial planning advice. They are based in Melbourne.
I was “cold called” some time ago which is how o came to hear of them. My only contact has been been via Zoom, email and phone.
They seem legitimate from what I can see, however I recently read in the news about a man who was scammed out of a lot of money. The company did exchange st, however he was talking with scammers who basically “cloned” the company’s information.
How can I know if the people I am dealing with are legitimate? Before I hand over my Super for them to invest….

Sorry about the typos! Should read “the company did exist”
This is only my opinion but I work on the theory that a successful company won't need to cold call clients.
Review the ones in your area.
Their AFSL is 312489, when you look up ASIC AFSL (Australian Financial Services Licensee) they are legit:

They sound like they're probably legit, based on what a previous poster said. That said, your gut feel should count for a lot. I wouldn't hand over my Super, or any money, if I had worried feelings about it or didn't feel comfortable with it.
They will have an official website, with an offical website address, and on it will list their contact details, which will be the same as the number you’re calling or being called from.
If not, you call that number on the website and ask to speak about your recent contact/chat further. You can even ask them for a name and reference number and tell them you’ll call them back. Then call the official number and if you can’t get through to that name and ref number then it’s not legit. And if they try to persuade you not to, then not legit.
All good companies understand fraud and concerns with security especially with being cold called, and should be happy for you to get peace of mind by confirming by contacting them through official channels.
I'd never hand money to a company I didn't know anything about. If you need an advisor, find one the old fashioned way - recommendation from people you trust who've used one or a local, established company with a good reputation. One who does a proper profile and strategy.
My husband, who's a planner/advisor just told me he'd be surprised if good financial planners are cold calling. Numbers of advisors has halved nationally and everyone he knows are swamped.
