Cancer and selling items for treatment

Hi all,

I am half way through chemotherapy for cancer treatment. I have lost all my hair and before cancer I was working . Now only my husband still works and his income is average but he now has to support me too so I'm not entitled to any medical top ups from centrelink. We don't have P.H.I.

I won't be wanting donations from go funds, cancer council, or anywhere . It's not how I roll. I believe in earning things. ( No disrespect here at all to anyone who uses go funds) , it's just not my way that's all.

Before I got sick and was working I used to love clothes shopping, handbags and shoes too. From Shein to Kathmandu , exoticaAthletica, Collete, to K.Mart to Sheik , from high end, to mid end to low end. Everything has either been worn twice at most or not at all. I own 3 wardrobes of these items and and keen to sell them all cheap to raise my own funds for the remainder of my treatments as some things aren't covered by Medicare. I have a grade 3 aggressive cancer.

I've tried contacting consignment shops and boutiques but it blows my mind how they're not interested in anything unless it's high end and when I mention my high end items they say 'oh we're not taking those at the moment.'. Or 'we're full in our shop'. So there goes that idea.

It's hard to sell clothes, shoes and bags online, including FB groups, so I was thinking of having an open week at my house by appointment for anyone happy to come look to buy, and incentives like 3rd item free etc .. I've no idea where to formally advertise this though. My place has cameras and tall lockable gates so I'm ok doing it this way. The prices will be $5min - $50max as I just want to raise funds fast before I get too unwell. I'm not even asking foe much money for them.

I don't know what other suggestions I could do? Local Letter drops, notice boards, markets ( which are difficult to get into plus my energy for this will make this option tough ).

Do any of you lovelies have any suggestions for a way that I can sell these things to raise my own funds to keep me in treatment longer?

Thank you in advance for all replies.

Try and sell it on ebay, the good stuff individually and small bundles of the cheap stuff. I wouldn't do an open home because that would be really stressful. Last time I moved I sold a lot on marketplace and I vowed never again as it was stressful organising so many pick ups at my home, the weird messages and organising my life around no shows and late people! It would be the same with an open home.

btw good luck with your treatment, going public is better than using phi anyway, because there's always a pretty big gap.
my cousin had cancer treatment off and on for years and never paid a cent, it's unfair that it isn't like this everywhere.

If your suburb has a school fete or church fete, you could have a stall there and get one of the classes to take you as 'their' stall. You'll get better uptake as the people attending have buy-in to the fundraising effort. You can share what you make - make the prices a bit higher, while still good, to make up the difference.
