Is coles good to work for?

Is coles good to work for?
I took a job with them and only getting 9hrs, was hoping to work other areas of the store and also I took a job in a section(deli) I'm not even familiar with which is making me worried I won't be happy there in a few months time.
I'm also 35, so I definitely need more hours.

To be fair, Coles is a huge corporation, some stores are going to be better operated and managed than others. So you'll get a pretty mixed bag of responses in terms of whether or not they're good to work for.

I work in management/recruitment (not for Coles/major supermarkets) so in my opinion, the hours they had on offer and the expectations of your role should have been discussed prior to your commencement. In saying that, I'm assuming you're a casual so there probably is only limited shifts they can offer you and they probably do need you in specific departments as opposed to your preferred departments but that still should have been made clear to you before you were offered the position.

Even as a casual you shouldn't be unsure of where you stand and worried about your longevity.

I'd suggest having a chat to your manager. Let them know you're keen for more shifts and to work across different departments.

I have work in Coles for 13 years started as a night filler went to deli and now I’m online manager it’s the best job I have ever had but yeah you need to show them that your willing to work hard and show enthusiasm for the job. But just keep at it, it will pay off.
