Circumcision of 9yr old - recommendations Brisbane North

My son has an issue with his foreskin, it doesn’t retract and balloons when he urinates since birth, the only advice I was given from a GP a little while ago when I asked about it was that if he’s having trouble and it’s not retracting we can get him circumcised. He was 7 when I asked and will be turning 9 soon.

We have been fortunate that he hasn’t had infections, so we have let him be and let him grow to see if it resolves itself. It hasn’t.

I don’t want him circumcised unless absolutely necessary, but I’d like to find a professional in the field who will assess and see if it is actually required.

Note: we have 2 boys, both are very different so we know that this could potentially be an issue.

And recommendations for doctors on Brisbane North Side?

Try a urologist

My son got a cream and had to pull it back daily to loosen it. It's actually super common. Treatment is usually around 2 years of age though?

The foreskin is fused until puberty. No manipulation or forced retraction should be happening, especially not for a two year old! Improper intact care can lead to microtears and reoccurring infections. All you need to do is wipe it like a finger from base to tip and only clean what is seen. His penis is functioning normally and he doesn’t need steroid creams.

You should educate the specialists. They're still obviously getting it wrong. My son is 14, but a colleague of mine just got the same prescription and advice for his son (2yo)

You definitely need a new doctor, my son although a lot younger at the time and did have an infection got steroid cream to thin and lose the foreskin, no issues since.
