Husbands father has terminal cancer and not long too live. My partner and I want to start a famy soon but now with this diagnosis unsure when.
Should we try now (as we know it'll make father happy even if he most likely won't get to meet the child?) or wait?

Just do it. You can't put life on hold. We all need things to look forward to, and just because something sad is happening in life it doesn't mean we aren't allowed to have some joy in our lives.
It could take you years to fall pregnant, I wouldn't wait....
