Family Day Care

Family Day Care

For years I have had the thought that one day I would start a family day care but with my own 3 kids still at home it wasn't possible. Now 2 are at school and the youngest one has just turned 4 I feel like it might be the right time. I was just wondering 2 things.....
1. What do parents look for when choosing and educator/daycare position for their kids?
2. Would you prefer an hourly fee for care only or would you pay a flat daily fee if it includes meals, nappies etc?
Thank you so much for your help :)

Its been years since I've needed daycare....but at different times I wouldve jumped at either option. Half day rates are good too....

I used to babysit overnights for shift workers.......

My first meeting the lady was nice but asked if I had any questions, being a first timer I had no idea what to ask and she didn't offer anything further. The house was unorganised and the daycare room was dark. The whole thing was a bit off putting. The kids she had that day also seemed bored

My second she as friendly offered heaps of information on their routine and what to expect. Her house was neat and the daycare room was bright and uncluttered. All the kids just kept playing while I was there and seemed happy.

It has a lot to do with just being comfortable with them as much anything else.

We have an hourly rate and send everything ourselves, I like that I know what dd is eating and that she has what ever else she needs. Saying that our lady is happy to make a sandwich if we run out of bread or something goes wrong.

I hope it all works out for you, it is a very rewarding job if you enjoy it :)

Our FDC has two rates - a casual rate which is 3 hr min and a bit higher than the daily rate which is a 7 hr min. She provides meals for an extra little fee. I prefer to keep it hourly as it gives that extra flexibility that you often don't get with a centre.
