Ok mums and dads I need some advice.
We currently live in a tiny town 2.5hrs east of Melbourne. Myself, my husband and two kiddies 5 & 8 years old are looking to move closer to Melbourne for my husbands work he's been offered a great opportunity. So I want to talk about suburbs that are family friendly, safe and have great primary schools, doctors, local shops with everything you need. It will be my sons first year of primary school. Give me some ideas/suggestions we don't really want to be more then 30kms out. We don't have any family around any Melbourne suburbs so I need helpful advice please

NO don't do it! If you think the valley is bad it's even harder to breathe once you pass Pakenham. Vline is great let him commute and its so much cheaper further out.
If anything move closer to the rail.
And the traffic omg the traffic *curls up into fetal position and sucks thumb*
Seriously though iv got family in toorak bunyip dandenong omfg traffic in dandenong....bunyip is very pricy but very nice and commutable. But so is most of baw baw shire. And it is still very much small country town.
Barely changed in 30 years...and I know my family have owned a huge chunk of the land there for over 30 years.
The express skips Garfield traf longwarry drouin maybe look at warragul drouin if you want more suburb than country without the smog
Dandenong the traffic REALLY is just insanity. And toorak he needs to be making the big bucks. I had an aunt who moved from dandenong to pakenham and they seemed to like it but Pakenham is suburb without the services. The infrastructure didn't quite cut it so it has issues.
I haven't found a suburb I'd be willing to drive through in peak hour yet. Which is why we don't live in the city. I enjoy my sanity.
Oh but before you decide find out about all the upcoming changes to the metro network....there are a whole lot in the works being done as they remove the level crossings.
Some things to consider...
Where will he be commuting to?
Check which lines go past his office.
Then look at which suburbs are accessible more readily
And do your homework on schools etc from there. Even if he plans on driving a vehicle it means you have viable back up should anything happen.
Oh and highly recommend "go via" the QLD roads etag system for dealing with city link and tolls.
Because living this side will hit you one way or another.
Moonee Ponds and maribynong are full of young families and Moonee Ponds especially has get schools and lots medical centers ect... It's roughly 6kms to the cbd! If he is making decent money you will have no problem finding a rental! Same with maribynong! It feels allot further out then 8kms to the cbd and it is full of parks and you have the river at your door step! And highpoint shopping complex of course :) keep in mind I'm talking about 'new' maribynong! Waterford estate ect...
