Starting own recruitment business for Transport only

Hi all,

Recently I started working in recruitment and I started getting a few calls from transport businesses wanting staff, from local and interstate drivers to forkfilt drivers and yardies! I spoke to my boss and he said he didn't like dealing with transport companies because it's more hassel than it's worth! I've been around transport for over 15yrs and I know a lot about the industry! I came home on that day and spoke to my fiancé about what was said and he said start up your own! You know the industry inside out, you love recruitment and you've always wanted your own business and be able to work around the kids!

I have looked into it and thought I'd just deal with long term temp and permanent placements! The inital outlay isn't massive because i have everything I'd need to start out! There could be a small outlay of about $1,000 for advertising, brouchures, and join up fees for recruitment councils etc!

What are your thoughts?? Should I dive in and do it? Should I stand up to my boss and say it is worth it in the long run and let hom deal with the financials etc? Or just leave it all together!

Thanks for your advice!

Can you run it on the side to see if it takes off? If your boss isn't interested in dealing with that industry you wouldn't be in direct competition but you'd need to check your contract with a fine tooth comb to make sure etc.

Also approach transport companies and get them to estimate how often they'd need your service. That will give you an idea of if its a viable business on its own.
