Hi,
My daughter has been telling me that her fanny is sore.
I'm not sure what it could be. She is 5yrs old.
Question.
Some adults get thrush, yes?
When you do, does it hurt?
How do you get thrush?
Can children get thrush?
Or could it be something more?
I'm going to call my doctor and get an appointment but until I see him I'm just wanting to no what to do.
I've been putting nappy rash cream on because it's the only thing that I can think of and giving her some panadol.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks Ladies.

Yes, absolutely kids can get thrush. And yes, it can hurt. Thrush isn't a sexual thing, it happens when bugs get into that area. In the case of genital thrush in kids it can be from improper wiping when going to the toilet. Other things it could be (not a definitive list): sometimes kids play with themselves and can overdo it, injuring or irritating the area; a reaction to soap, fabric or washing liquid/powder; worms.
If the nappy rash cream is soothing her, keep it up and definitely see the doctor.
Yes babies and children can get thrush
Yes my 8yr old gets it every now and then i use some sudo cream on her and it seems to clear things up the thrush cream is alittle too strong for girls.
Take her to Dr ASAP it could be thrush, a uti, worms, or e coli, the longer you leave it could get very bad, plus must be uncomfortable for her so see gp today.
Thrush is actually quite rare in young girls, the ph is all different down there to an adolescent or adult

Natural plain yoghurt was the best thing for me as a kid or a pinetarsol bath.
I don't want to be extreme but you should probably also make sure she's not being abused. She probably isn't but if it's not thrush or a uti it might be good to test the waters a little bit because that can be a sign of abuse.
My daughter ,now 11, had problems in her genital area with itching/soreness for yrs from around 4-5yrs. We had swabs done with our gp, tried the thrush creams, nappy creams, changed her soap/shampoo/conditioner to soap free (dermaveen, cetaphil etc) & changed our laundry detergent, worm treatments...the lot. She still had problems... it was affecting her sleep & very frustrating, as she could sometimes only get some relief from a warm shower in the middle of the night. About 2 yrs ago I tried a herbal nappy cream from Arbonne (ABC baby range) instant relief, she used it after her shower daily until the tube ran out in about six months...havent had a problem since & she can now tolerate normal shampoo & conditioner etc.
Worth a try if all else fails, best of luck IM
