Mums, I am writing this as a generalised rant as honestly I am disgusted. I am a solo mother of 2 young children. After reading a post from a mum who was inspired by another mothers bravery in court and so many other women had responded after going through the same situation, I am horrified! Why is the system failing so many women and children?! I am trying to help a mother is an awful situation and it's nothing for me to be speaking to multiple government agencies in a day because it's all to hard. No one wants to take responsibility. Why? Why won't someone take a stand?? Why won't someone stand up and challenge the family law act that was written in 1975?! I am not understanding and yes, I do realise that it flawed for both mum and dads but it's mums that seem to need to defend themselves because of their financial situation. I'm continuously left gobsmacked. I feel like we should unite and do something but I have no idea what!! To anyone that has been through the legal system and stayed sane, I stand an applaud you!! You are amazing!!

I agree with you wholeheartedly, but (as you said) it really isn't a gender thing.
My husbands ex gets free legal support, despite the fact that she's breached orders 3 times for lengthy periods over the most ridiculous reasons.
The ex was physical abusive to both my husband and their child, and there is even a reason to suspect sexual abuse but the court refuses to even entertain the idea because she's pretending to be the victim.
She keeps getting her father and her partner to threaten us for money.
So on, and so on.....
And she's constantly getting away with it all.
My husband and I are in debt over 30 thousand with another 20 heading our way, all because of legal fees.
And all she had to do was say the word 'abuse', and despite the fact that she admitted to it being a lie (in front of a judge, mind you) the judge still believed her and my husband is treated like an abuser.
I repeat - even though she admitted to it being a lie, the judge said 'we'll pretend as though it happened'.
Mother's or father's - it shouldn't matter who is standing up their.
No one should have to pay for their god given right to be a parent to a child they created, and no one should have to allow their children to be put into danger because they couldn't afford a fancy lawyer.
So here is to our family laws being changed, not to reflect us parents but to do what is in the best interests of our children!
