Going to the snow

Going to the snow

Hi IM's
My partner, I and 4 boys (13, 12, 10 and 7) would love to go to the snow, but we dont know where to start. Where would you recommend for first timers? Do we get a cabin away from the snowfields or stay at a ski resort type thing? What clothing will we need (we are from FNQ so we arent used to any temp below 20° haha)and do we buy it or hire it? What month is the best? etc.
I have had a look online but its all so confusing to me.
I want to know everything to help us have a great first time at the snow.

Depends largely on your financial situation. Staying at the ski fields can be really expensive as is buying your our ski/snow gear. Stay in Jindabyne, buy a national park pass and drive to the fields each day. Hire snow gear - pants, parkas, boots, chains for car and toboggin. Skiing in Aus is really expensive, expect to pay big bucks for lift passes and lessons. Cross country skiing is a way cheaper option for families - ask the hire shop in Jindabyne if interested. Maybe even check out comparing holidays in NZ or even Japan, this can be cheaper.

If you love the snow after your first visit, then you could invest in the gear.

As for clothing when not on the snow - normal trackies and jeans and jumpers will be ok. Layering is the key, so singlet, skivvy, shirt, jumper, parka. Scarf. Wollen socks. Beanie.
